Capabilities

MWI vendors can exploit the versatility of the aluminum and copper extrusion process to supply many different precision manufactured parts to our customers in the electronics, telecommunications, computer, food service, automotive, and medical industries. Extrusion features include:

•   Circle size up to 16.500" in diameter
•   Aluminum alloys: 6061, 6063, and 6005

We recognize the demand for short extrusion prototype and production lead times. On an expedited basis we can deliver samples from a newly tooled extrusion shape in four to six weeks.

The most common aluminum alloy for extrusions is 6063-T5.  This alloy is easy to extrude and has very good thermal and mechanical properties.  MWI’s vendor extrusions comply with industry standard tolerances established by the Aluminum Association, Inc. Tolerances are directly related to the size of the extruded shape: the larger the shape the greater the tolerance will be. For full information of industry tolerances consult the aluminum Association, Inc. website at www.aluminum.org.

 Heat sinks

Heat sinks function by efficiently transferring thermal energy ("heat") from an object at a relatively high temperature to a second object at a lower temperature with a much greater heat capacity. This rapid transfer of thermal energy quickly brings the first object into thermal equilibrium with the second, lowering the temperature of the first object, fulfilling the heat sink's role as a cooling device. Efficient function of a heat sink relies on rapid transfer of thermal energy from the first object to the heat sink, and the heat sink to the second object.
MWI procures a full-range of heat sink products designed to provide a complete thermal dissipation solution for most any need. Standard heat sinks as well as custom designed heat sinks are offered.  MWI heat sinks are manufactured using a variety of methods depending upon whether the material; the design parameters; and performance requirements. Manufacturing methods include extrusion, machining and finishing. All operations from tooling design and fabrication to final inspection is performed by proven shops. In addition, MWI vendor can provide many value add services such as special finishes and assembly services.
